Riding my bike is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. On Friday night Mike fell asleep with Pierson at 8 and so I thought that a self-lead bike tour through Brooklyn Heights would be lovely. I made my way up to the Promenade, such a romantic view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Then I discovered this dead end street of amazing townhouses with a gorgeous view of lower Manhattan and the BQE (Brooklyn Queens Expressway).
I think of when dad taught me to ride my bike. One of my most vivid memories is of him snaking in the road so I could keep up with him, but I thought that I should follow him, so I snaked too...until he explained that I should ride straight.
I also remember getting my first 10-speed in California and riding through the hills of our neighborhood.
And then when I went on my first long bike ride with dad throught Salt Lake City, that was eye-opening. I think it was the first time I rode for so long and wasn't going anywhere in particular. Just going.
A few months ago I met a girl my age who didn't know how to ride a bike. I thought, how unfortunate because she doesn't know how it feels to ride through the city and race down the hills.
